Pretashop has been releasing a numbers of updates in recent months since version 1.6.1.0 updated. While the current Prestashop version is by far the most popular e-commerce platform solution, incontancy and conpetency in the market requires constantly updates. Accordingly, we are looking forward to what upgrade features will make Prestashop 1.7 become the top platform in near future. Below is predictions for the upcoming Prestashop 1.7.0.0

Full site HTTPS support

In the older versions, ulitizing https on every page causes your site to slow down. However, in Prestashop 1.7 this protocol will be changed to solve this problem easily with the development of technology.

Features as modules

There might be some features your store do not need but they still load and cause your site to run slowly on certain server types. To solve this, Prestashop1.7 should remove those feature from the core and add them later as modules.

Multiple language support

Tighter module integration

Prestashop 1.7 should improve the way of handling configurable modules, they could either add the module to the appropriate section of the administration panel, or create a menu item for it .

Better password security

Prestashop 1.7 should use a more secure algorithm than the current MD5 which will soon become out of date. Welcomes email should also stop sending plaintext passwords .

Images targeted to languages

In current version of Prestashop, a slider can only target to one language. It is crucial to target all of the images to all languages in order to improve SEO and usability.

CSS editor and backoffice theme editor

This is one of the powerful features that drive people to WordPress since users can easily make changes without having to ftp into a site and use a text edittor. Appying this feature will make Prestashop become more convenient and approchable to non- developers.

Header and footer editor

In current version of Prestashop, we need to fpt into the site edit to validate the site with Webmaster Tools or other integrations. In order to avoid people from having to go into code, Prestashop 1.7 should add a simple editor in the back office.

Htaccess editor

This feature had been included in Prestashop 1.4 but was removed in 1.5.x.x and 1.6.x.x versions. It should be added back in Prestashop 1.7.x.x releases for the sake of simplicity. This is certainly considerably develop the ease of Prestashop when keeping users out of code .

Backoffice access to error messages and debug profiling

It is better to keep customer out of code. Hence, the option to enable these setting should be put in the back office on the advance paramaters page.

Better product configuration

In current version of Prestashop, options related to products are limited. You can choose either enable or disable products, fill in some general information then make them available for sale or not. In upcoming version, Prestashop should add more information such as;

ISBN field for book sellers
ASIN field for syncing with Amazon
Prices below MAP pricing should be available in the shopping cart
Configurable product tabs should be introduced globally or per product.

Better language support

Prestashop should not use language prefix for default language. As a result, when you add another language, your current urls will not be changed and you will not drop out of the search engine.

Blog integration

A modular blog feature should be added into the next versions of Prestashop. This will make shop owners realize that they need a blog for their shop.

Configurable 404 page

In order to edit the content easier, Prestashop 1.7 should stop current 404 page and use 404 CMS page instead. It should also add a hook to the 404 page to turn it from merely a error page into a marketing page. For example, you can attach a relevent product list with messege like “ The page you are trying to reach does not exist, or has been removed, may be you were looking for one of the products below”.

Clean URLS

To improve shop’s SEO and type urls easier, the ID number should be get rid of from the product, category and CMS URLS. It will help you avoid any naming collisions, which is very important.

Better favicon support

Prestashop 1.7 need to take jpg or png and automatically process to make the appropiate size for favicon. In current version, Prestashop only supports standard .ico file with defaut image size. This upgrade is especially important when you want to take advantage of mobile icon without manually editting.

Easier customizable checkout

Currently Prestashop requires to fill many different fields during check out process. It should be more configurable to add or delete any fields from back end office. What is more, I think we should have the option to select whether to turn off the newsletter box and the terms and conditions.

Simple maintenance buttons

Currently when you want to remove all abandoned cart, you must buy a module or clear it out manually from the database. Prestashop 1.7 should add the option for clearing old carts to leave ones from time frame and keep ones associated with accounts. At the same time, we need to have a function to delete all expired vouchers and clear expired price rules. What is more, there should be a button that will help you enable or disable all products.

The aforementioned prediction is essential features for having a great e-commerce platform. Let’s look forward to seeing the next releases of Prestashop 1.7.
